Day 9: Oranges

$60.00
Limited Availability

6”x6” oil on stretched canvas

I painted these oranges because they make me think of living at home with my parents. I’m so grateful for them.

When I was little my mom and dad planted all kinds of fruit trees in their backyard, but the ones that really thrived are five orange trees. California has a long history with cultivating this fruit, and the trees do incredibly well in this climate with some care.

Now the scent of sweet orange blossoms brings me back to that yard and memories of picking oranges as a kid. It is always amazing for me to see how things have changed and yet stay the same. The skinny little trees they planted are tall with thick trunks now and every time I visit there is a huge bowl of oranges on the dining table, yet my parents always insist I go pick some fruit off the trees to take home.

The marks in oil pastels can look a bit similar to the brush strokes in oil paintings- I framed a few studies with handmade linen mats and they add just a bit more texture and warmth ☀️
This month’s calendar spread might be my favorite ✨🌾
Happy Earth Day! From the deserts to our oceans, this planet sure is beautiful. Here’s to appreciating its natural wonders and being good stewards of the prettiest rock in the solar system (and beyond). 🌎🌱
Mini 5”x7” landscape. Months later and I’m still enchanted with this serene little spot we visited in Sedona, AZ over the summer. 🏜
